We catch up on all things Archisoccer - August 2020

Hello ArchiSoccer Family,

It doesn’t seem all that long ago that we had just completed our 2020 quarterfinals and we were down to our last 4 teams of the competition. Then out of the blue, nature intervened and ArchiSoccer, and the world for that matter, was frozen in time. Since then we have all experienced a crazy unprecedented 5 months that for some will have seemed like an eternity; from enforced isolation, to sweeping lockdowns, home schooling and now Stage 04 restrictions. It’s been one hell of a journey. We hope that everyone has managed to keep healthy both physically and mentally during these tough times. We applaud the frontline workers and the general public for all that they have done, being considerate and generally acting responsibly to keep our friends and families as safe as they can.

If there has been a silver lining to this global pandemic it has certainly been the extra time to stop and reflect, to gain a better perspective on what is important to us all and acknowledge what we may have been taking for granted. As winter comes to a close, we seem to be seeing a downward trend in cases and some light at the end of the tunnel. With spring comes hope that maybe (just maybe) we will be able to take the field again for our 20/21 season.

We appreciate that our little soccer league is not that significant in the bigger scheme of things, but we also recognise that we all miss what it represents, community, togetherness, physical activity, outdoors, sunshine.  As humans we thrive when we are able to socially and physically interact with each other; our identity and wellbeing is built around our sense of community.  Our need to isolate and stay separate during these tough times has more then ever made this abundantly clear.

So, with this in mind we look to the future and start to plan the re-uniting of our ArchiSoccer community. There are a lot of things we need to go right before that can become a reality and not least getting approval from our state government for community sport to recommence.

Our original intent was to try and complete the final 3 games of the 19/20 season and award a team the honour of being the 2020 Champions (although this has been made more difficult with the new stage 4 lockdown).  We would then roll into the 20/21 season in whatever guise that may take, subject to regulation requirements and timing. Please stay tuned for updates. We will have more definitive instruction as things unfold over the coming weeks/months.

If the 20/21 season does become pushed back by any restrictions. Rest assured should we need to get creative to keep our community together we have you guys covered – We are all Architects after all!
